Qatar-based artist, Emelina Soares is currently completing her MA in Museums and Gallery practices at The University College of London Qatar, after attaining her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar in Painting and Printmaking. She was awarded a nine-month residency program in 2015-2016 as one of the first badge of selected artists to participate in the Fire Station Artists in Residence programme, and exhibited her work amongst 18 artists in the group show “Artists in Residence-2015” which took place in the Fire Station Gallery. She also participated in a group exhibition of four artists at the Katara Art Center titled “Culture Reformation-2016”. Prior to this, she showcased at Virginia Commonwealth University Qatar’s senior exhibition in 2015. She was also one of three artists awarded to travel to Brazil for a two-week residency as part of the collaboration: Qatar-Brazil year 2014, and exhibited her process within the group exhibition that followed after. Her upcoming goal is to attend a Masters in Fine Arts in order to pursue her career as an art educator.
